According to the ILO ( ) there are currently 168 million children under the age of eighteen working hard, away from home in order to provide for their families. Bangladesh alone is home to approximately 7.4 children in between the ages five and seventeen that are forced to work everyday instead of hanging out with their friends and playing games. The males do the outside labour while the females are send far away from home to work in private homes in order to earn money for their families. Many of these girls do not see day light at all, they are all forced to work about sixteen hours a day with little access to education. I believe that child labour needs to stop! Although it has dropped by over a third over the past few years, it is not enough! Children should be going to school getting their education and playing with toys not living hard and risky lives. It should not be their responsibility to provide for their family. I also believe that the employers should be educated as well because many of them have no idea that they are hurting innocent human being rather then helping them out. For example ""Employers just don't consider the welfare of the children. They think they are doing a good thing, the parents send the children and they get food, a warm place to stay. We say it's not enough, they need to treat them with dignity and educate them." . McGrath states in one of his articles As I was reading further into this topic i found an that really jumped at me. It talks about a 13- year-old girl that was abducted for four years and forced to work, cook, clean and watch other children. However often times never she never even got paid. this is her story; article"I was not allowed to rest," she says. "If I did something wrong or it was not what they wanted, they hit me."If I wanted to sit down for a bit because I was so tired, they would scream at me.I was never allowed to leave the house, so I didn't realize that I'm in Delhi. My employers told me that we are in Madras in South India." Lakshmi later also admitted that she was sexually abused. No girl or any other human being for the matter should be going thought this situation ever. Something needs to be done! The number of child labour needs to drop even more ASAP!
